We have a panel of speakers who will share insights and information from their organizations regarding the challenges and opportunities to incorporate principles of diversity and inclusion in healthcare. The panel will be moderated by Lieutenant Colonel Cody Hess. Lt Col Hess is a Board Director for the Alaska Healthcare Executives Network.

Vivian Echavarria, FACHE is Vice President of Professional and Support Services, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. Vivian is an Athabascan Indian born and raised in Alaska and a Tribally enrolled Tozitna, Limited member who brings institutional knowledge and Alaska familiarity to the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC). She was born in Glennallen, raised in Tanana and Anchorage, and has worked in the Alaska Tribal Health System for more than 35 years. She started her career as a medical records clerk at the old Native hospital before moving to Dillingham, Alaska to start her professional career for the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation. An ANTHC employee since its inception in 1997, Vivian oversees ancillary and support functions at ANMC and a staff of around 450 employees that work in a broad variety of departments covering areas such as in-patient services, pharmacy, security and food services. • Vivian was the first Alaska Native to be certified as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and she strives to ensure “Safe, quality, efficient care while keeping costs down.” • Recognized as ANTHC Outstanding Employee of the Year

Senior Master Sergeant Charles E. Ball is currently the Superintendent of the TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration Flight at the 673d Medical Support Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He oversees the Air Force’s largest OCONUS TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration flight supporting a 55-bed Joint Venture facility serving 228,000 visits, 8,700 patient bed days, 3,000 admissions, 3,000 surgeries, and 1,300 personnel. He is responsible for a 33 member flight that includes the 673d Medical Group’s referral management center, patient travel office, medical records department, and the admissions and dispositions department.

Staff Sergeant Shykeria M Anderson is Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, with the Airforce Subsistence & Supply. She is a Diversity & Inclusion Council Member. She directs the Nutritional Medicine storeroom operations for inpatient and staff feeding mission for the largest hospital in PACAF. She orders facility subsistence/supplies; records incoming/outgoing materials; conducts inventories; keeps warehouse maintained. She also advises management on potential hazardous materials; makes recommendations as required; maintains records/clean-up plan; and she leads non profit organization; validates committee constitution/contacts for wing events; manages member continuity.

Senior Airman Gregory Applewhite Jr. is a Biomedical Equipment Technician and a Diversity & Inclusion Council Member. He Installs, inspects, calibrates, repairs, and maintains 5,800 medical devices worth over $55M, enabling care for 159,000 eligible beneficiaries. He tests and measures medical devices, ensuring their compliance with The Joint Commission/Unit Effectiveness Inspections standards. He provides regional intermediate maintenance certification and technical guidance to 12 Air Force, Air National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, and USA GSU’s totaling in 2,000 critical medical assets/$2M; and he maintains maintenance data/quality control; identifies medical equipment and components which fail to meet Air Force and other regulatory standards.
